Bio

Dualé’s work explores the construction and deconstruction of the human subject, with the body as a focal point through which to witness oppressive and dominant systems, and how power dynamics continually mold and reshape individuals. Predominantly working with ceramic, she uses an ancient material to create archaic, almost grotesque forms. This medium shares the same plastic qualities as the human body itself, but also carries a historical lineage of utility: she questions how bodies either succeed or fail in conforming to expected roles and functionalities, whether on a personal or societal level. She uses ceramic’s properties in it is materiality as investigative tools, exploring strength, cracks, and fragility, a process where ceramic pieces bear witness to their own circus. How to break free from those constraints, how to transform into a space where dualities blur? As an answer, she offering a new language, proposal for emancipation, that embraces repetition, stuttering, opacity, and encourages the spiritual, and the seemingly useless.
